A long, large island situated directly between the Veparan archipelago and the northern continent was the first land reached by early elven sailors heading west. Initially untamed wilderness, it has since been colonized and its forests and wildlife restricted. The elves have used it as a staging ground for their trade with the humans who live on the continent, as a port of call for sailors to rest and for raw goods to be turned into usable products for the homeland.
Humans from the mainland have moved to the island, as they saw it as a place to earn a living. Prohibited from joining the elvish fleets due to “concerns about the training from outside the islands,” they become involved in processing raw goods from the mainland, or occasionally band together as adventurers or privateers for hire. As such, Vasahata is known by many to be the place to go when in need of a hired sword, or when one has a sword they wish to have hired.
A result of the massive intermingling between humans and elves, the half-elven population of Vasahata is one of the highest per capita, second only to that in Kathaputali. Many half-elves (sometimes referred to by the epithet “adhurum” by elves) try to join the fleet, but because of the racism in the fleet, are generally regulated to poor positions and poorer pay, hardly more than their human counterparts earn working on land.
Vasahata is also the home of the Anamata Vatana, the bank of the Veparan government. It issues gold when people go to it bearing bank notes. Set in a remote area, it is one of the most well guarded fortresses in the world, as it houses so much of the Veparan economy.
In addition to having no less than half a dozen ships in port at one time, there is also a small drydock that builds ships for (usually) human clients. While by no means comparable to the ships of the Fleet, they are still sought after by human traders. The wood used in these drydocks is taken from the main land, while the remaining forests on the island are typically shipped to Vepara, as there is a special type of wood that grows only on the island that is prized by Veparan shipmakers for its almost magical properties; the forests of Vasahata are almost half darkwood, which is as strong as other hardwoods, but half as dense.
